John Lennon, Stuart Sutcliffe, Paul McCartney, George Harrison
1957
This building on Hope Street welcomed John Lennon in October 1957, admitted by the school director himself based on his portfolio, and months later he met Stuart Sutcliffe, who would become his best friend. It was also in class that he met Cynthia Powell, his first wife. Paul McCartney and George Harrison, then students at the neighboring school, rehearsed with Lennon and Sutcliffe in the school cafeteria. In front of the building today there is an art installation called A Case History, with suitcases scattered on the sidewalk honoring personalities linked to the Hope Street area, including Lennon, Yoko Ono, McCartney, Harrison, and Sutcliffe. The space is now part of the LIPA campus, founded by Paul McCartney in 1996, creating a direct link between the past and present of artistic education in the city.
