Litherland Town Hall

The Story

It was in this hall that The Beatles played on December 27, 1960, upon their return from their first stint in Hamburg. At the second show, on January 5, 1961, Paul McCartney played bass for the first time with the band, as Stuart Sutcliffe had stayed in Hamburg with his girlfriend Astrid Kirchherr. Among the audience was Ringo Starr, then drummer for Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, who had just returned from his own German season. The Beatles would return to Litherland Town Hall 18 more times throughout 1961. Today the venue is an NHS health center.
