Apartment 5C of this building was where Layne Staley lived from 1997 until his death on April 5, 2002, at the age of 34. He bought the property in April 1997 and practically never left it again. In his last years, he created art, played video games, and maintained a small home recording studio. His body was found two weeks after his death, when his accountant noticed there had been no bank withdrawals for over a week. There are no plaques or markings on the site. It is private property.
