The Story

The instrument shop where practically every Merseybeat musician bought their first guitars or amps in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Owner Frank Hessy sold a banjo on a hire-purchase agreement to a young John Lennon. Aunt Mimi signed the agreement and unknowingly changed music history. A blue plaque marks the spot on Stanley Street. The shop itself has long since ceased to exist.
