FOPP was founded in 1981 by Gordon Montgomery as a stall in Glasgow. The name came from the 1975 Ohio Players song "Fopp." The chain grew to 105 stores in the UK before collapsing in 2007 when it absorbed rival chain Music Zone. It re-emerged with six stores and is now operated by Sunrise Records under license of the brand. The London unit is located here in Covent Garden's famous Seven Dials and is one of the largest physical vinyl distributors in the UK, also offering CDs, DVDs, Blu-rays, and books at below-market prices. It regularly hosts concerts, autograph sessions, and events with artists.
