A Lendária Cogumelo Records

Sepultura, Sarcófago, Overdose, Holocausto

1980

The Story

Founded in 1980 in the Imprensa Building, on this corner of Augusto de Lima Avenue, as a rock record store, Cogumelo became a record label in 1985 and released Sepultura’s first EP that same year, on a split-LP shared with Overdose. But before it was a label, it was a meeting point. The metalheads of Belo Horizonte used to gather on the sidewalk out front, drinking, trading cassette tapes, discussing foreign bands that almost no one knew, and planning their own bands. The store attracted the Cavalera brothers and many other metalheads from the region. Morbid Visions, Bestial Devastation, Sarcófago's I.N.R.I. and the entire foundation of Brazilian metal came from here. Cogumelo operates today a few blocks from there, in Galeria Mix Shopping. For metal fans, it is a mandatory pilgrimage.
