Carly Simon Anticipation

Carly Simon

1971

The Story

The cover was photographed at the ornamental gates of Queen Mary's Garden, in Regent's Park, by Carly's own brother, photographer Peter Simon, in the summer of 1971. The pose refers to the album track "The Garden," which invites the listener to "come into the garden." The title track speaks of Carly's anxiety waiting for a meeting with Cat Stevens, and decades later gained extra fame by becoming the soundtrack for Heinz ketchup commercials. The garden, opened in 1932, houses over 12,000 rose bushes and remains one of London's most visited spaces.
