Bottom of the Hill

The Story

In 1991, this building, which was constructed in 1911, became a music venue and has since hosted thousands of bands, including early career shows by Death Cab for Cutie, Blink-182, and The Strokes. In 1998, Green Day recorded here for an MTV program. Rolling Stone magazine even named Bottom of the Hill the best place to see live music in San Francisco. Today it is women-run and has shows almost every night of the week, but announced in January 2026 that it will close its doors at the end of the year, with the last show on December 31, 2026.
