Bossa Nova
· 1950s–1960s
A tiny alley in Copacabana full of small nightclubs where bossa nova was born and refined in the late 1950s and early 60s. The name Beco das Garrafas (Bottles Alley) comes from neighbors who would throw bottles at the houses, complaining about the noise. The musicians inside didn't care. It was here that the genre that would define Brazilian music abroad found its sound.
