In 1991, the sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart invested in this Belltown studio and renamed it Bad Animals after their 1987 album. This is the same facility where Heart had recorded their biggest 1970s hits. Nancy later described the purchase as financially unwise. During their ownership, Soundgarden recorded Superunknown here, Nirvana remixed Heart-Shaped Box, and Pearl Jam recorded Vitalogy. The building was demolished in 2018. Studio X now operates in Capitol Hill.
