The Story
A concert venue that was the main rival of the Fillmore, and managed by Chet Helms, Janis Joplin's oldest and most loyal supporter. He himself went to Texas to get her in 1963, and later sent a trusted friend to bring her back to San Francisco in 1966. Janis Joplin's first concert with Big Brother and the Holding Company was here in June 1966. The building still stands, but it is no longer a concert venue.
