The Story

The San Francisco branch of Amoeba Music opened in 1997 in a 23,000 sq ft space near Golden Gate Park. Its collection is impressive, with over 100,000 CDs, vinyl records, and cassettes. Paul McCartney recorded a surprise live EP here in 2007. Founded in Berkeley in 1990, Amoeba survived the decline of physical media by understanding that a record store is also a community center. Still active.
