a-ha, Joe Strummer, The Clash
1985
The Elgin is a corner pub in Notting Hill, opened in 1856, with a carved wood interior and gilded panels. In 1985, photographer Just Loomis photographed a-ha inside a real London pub for the cover of their classic *Hunting High and Low*, according to Loomis himself, who was trying to avoid the cliché of pop covers at the time. Although the location is not identified in the album's official materials, it is widely accepted by fans and researchers that the pub is The Elgin. Joe Strummer of The Clash was also a regular there, playing with his previous band, The 101'ers. The pub is still active at the same address.
