81 Renshaw

The Beatles, John Lennon

1961

The Story

This building was a liquor store when journalist Bill Harry rented the upstairs office in 1961 to found Mersey Beat, the newspaper that christened Liverpool's music scene and had John Lennon as a frequent visitor and contributor. In the 1970s, it became a record store, and reopened in 2016 as 81 Renshaw, today a vinyl shop, café, and live music venue.
