The Story
The cover photo for the album The Madcap Laughs was taken in Syd Barrett's apartment at Wetherby Mansions, in Earl's Court, photographed by Storm Thorgerson of Hipgnosis. The wooden floorboards that Barrett painted orange and purple, the peeling paint, and Barrett's distant gaze became one of the most fascinating album cover images in rock history. The original floorboards were auctioned off in 2024.
