Adoniran Barbosa
· 1949–1966
Adoniran Barbosa lived in apartment 22 of this building from 1949 to 1966. From the window, he witnessed the demolition of a townhouse where the market vendors Mato Grosso and Joca lived, and transformed what he saw into "Saudosa Maloca," one of the most beloved songs in Brazilian samba. He wrote about Brás, Bixiga, and Jaçanã in his lyrics, but it was at this address that everything happened.
