Praça do DI

The Story

This square is one of the greatest symbols of resistance and urban culture outside the Plano Piloto. Since the 1980s and 1990s, the place has become the main meeting point for alternative youth, skateboarders, and followers of the punk and underground movements from various satellite cities of the Federal District. With its open spaces, ramps, and promenades, the square served as an informal stage for rap battles, meetings of local bands, independent fairs, and wheeled maneuvers that shaped generations of skateboarders in the capital. For the DF's music and cultural scene, Praça do DI represents the decentralization of rock and hip-hop from the Plano Piloto.
