One of the most celebrated American musicians of the 20th century, Bernstein composed West Side Story, Candide and Mass while serving as Music Director of the New York Philharmonic for over a decade. He conducted more than 1,200 performances at Lincoln Center. His score for West Side Story is considered the pinnacle of the American musical theatre tradition.
