Edifício Maletta

Cultural Center

The Story

Built in 1961 on the former site of the Grande Hotel, Maletta quickly became the most culturally charged building in Belo Horizonte. During the military dictatorship, its bars and hallways were a refuge for artists, journalists, and students. By day, the second floor is a labyrinth of record stores, bookstores, and second-hand shops selling vinyl, CDs, and rare books. By night, the famous balcony turns into one of the city's most democratic meeting points.
