Founded in 2001 on Avenida Barata Ribeiro in Copacabana (hence the pun in the name), it moved to Botafogo in 2014. Baratos da Ribeiro is one of Rio de Janeiro's most beloved used bookstores for those seeking music and literature. Owner Maurício Gouveia has curated a collection of about 20,000 books and a selection of LPs covering rock, jazz, MPB, bossa nova, blues, and Brazilian and international soul. It's more than just a store. It hosts poetry readings, live performances, exhibitions, a radio show, and the Feira do Disco do Rio de Janeiro. The entrance is through a small courtyard where the owner himself is often available for a chat.
