Casa Matriz

The Story

Opened in 2000 in the basement of the JK Building, where it operated for 21 years. Matriz became the main meeting point for the city's alternative, underground, and independent culture. Artists like Zeca Baleiro, Chico César, Toninho Horta, and Celso Adolfo performed here. After almost closing during the pandemic, it reopened in 2022 at this new address in the City Center. Festivals, cinema, exhibitions, theater, dance, and book launches are part of its programming. In 2024, management changed, but the space remains active with the same spirit.
